Planning Consultant
We generally work with planning consultants as part of the planning
team although we have acted directly for planners in some cases. The

Advice on Planning Conditions with Regard to Noise e.g. PPG24
We
currently carry out several planning related surveys a month with
regard to noise & vibration impact on both residential, public and
commercial buildings. Our service starts with satisfying simple
planning conditions with regard to acoustics to representation at
Planning Appeals and Public Inquiries.
Transportation Noise & Vibration Predictions & Surveys
We
currently run the SoundPlan software package for road noise prediction
and can advise on road and rail impact from noise & vibration. We
are currently involved in a before and after road noise study for the
change in road alignment to protect the developer from claims under the
Land Compensation Act.
Road and Railway Noise Assessments and Predictions
Because
of the instrumentation we carry we are able to carry out intensive
short term and long term assessments of road and rail impact with
regard to noise & vibration. A recent road study involved the
environmental impact of a traffic calming scheme where local residents
were complaining of speed bump nuisance from HGV and Bus traffic.
24hr Noise & Vibration Monitoring
We are
able to offer a number of survey schemes to suit the individual client.
From a simple 24 hour continuous noise survey to long term year round
monitoring , e.g. to cover a large scale construction project. Selected
equipment is also available for hire.
Liaison with the Local Authority Officers
We
are frequently asked to liaise with Local Authority officers where
planning applications feature noise & vibration issues. The general
objective is to talk to the LA to understand their concerns and the
reasoning behind their requirements and conditions. We have regular
contact with LA planning departments, environmental health sections and
their officers.
Development Site Noise & Vibration Impact Studies
Where
a development is likely to have it’s own impact on a local community
e.g. a new factory or water works, we are able to provide predictions
of the demolition phase, construction phase and the final operational
phase of the scheme to the relevant authorities.
Advice on Sound Insulation and Building Envelope Design
We
currently work for over 30 Home builders advising on sound insulation,
building envelope design and potential nuisance from local industrial
and commercial sources. This work forms a regular feature of our
operation.
Nuisance Assessments for Noise & Vibration
Where
new sources are being introduced into residential areas there is a
likelihood that noise nuisance will be an issue. Local Authority
officers are becoming more likely to request an assessment than ever
before and simple steps taken at an early stage can assist in the
planning application process.
